About the Hobbits World

As it works out, I seem to have picked up a few skills in playing around with the Internet, the World Wide Web and other new stuff, which to me is kinda amazing because it is usually assumed that old geezers cannot understand this stuff.

Since I can do it, I have done it, and tried to create a family space out here in the Cyber World, if for no other reason than to have a safe place for my grandkids (hopefully other folks grandkids) to play with the tools they will be using the rest of their lives.

This space is about you, not about me, so if there is something that you think should be added to it, please drop me a line and I will see if I can do it. If you want to help out, there is still space in the Mom's Squad for those Mom's (and Dad's) who want to have access to the system to keep an eye on things. We have some interesting stuff, you might want to check out, links are below

Kid Safe & Website Mission Statement

I have been bugged by the fact that Mom & Dad's Grand-Kids, Great-Grand Kids, Great-Great Grand Kids are not aware of who each other are. We are pretty spread out these days, my kids are in California, my Grand Kids are in Arizona, Virginias' Kids and Grand Kids as far as I know are in Colorado, Michigan and back east. Barbs' kids and Grand Kids are up in the Pacific Northwest and points east, Elsie's Kids and Grand Kids are in Michigan, Ohio and the Carolinas, Some of Jim's Kids and Grand Kids are in Florida, but I don't know where the rest of them are.

I am thinking that Hobbits World might be a way for all these kids to find one another and get to know each other. I have asked for some help, and am still waiting on responses, but I think Hobbits World can be made into a kid safe environment, for them to be on line on.

It would not make a lot of sense to have a system for them that their friends cannot participate on, so I am thinking that part of the Mission Statement might be that the system is restricted to family members, and friends of family members.  I don't think this is overly restrictive, and at the same time I would have the warm fuzzy's of knowing that anyone on the system was known to someone.

Would like to get the thinking of every one on this, and perhaps move forward with a MomSquad to help develop a mission statement and help keep an eye on what goes on on Hobbits' World

Things

Some things make me go Hmmm and shake my head in amusement, amazement, or sometimes resignation, this feature is a place where I can make a quick note to myself about them, you can participate if you want, check it out

Training Center

I think a lotta of the new high tech we are seeing is pretty amazing perhaps the most amazing thing is that if you look around you can almost always find a free version of whatever it is, and loads of help in learning how to use the tools. Terry sez that I can start a new career by reading a book, and she is pretty close to the bone with that comment. Being an old coot, I sometime have less than optimal recall of all of the details on how to do something or other.

I created the training center as a place to keep all of the cheat sheets, so that when I solve a problem on one project I can write down the answer and not have to go though the learning curve when I want to do it again. The ITC is a little behind but if anyone wants to make use of it I will catch it up to make it a bit more useful.

Server Environment

PHP/Software Enviornment

Tibetans have prayer wheels, we have computers, pretty much the same kinda deal. Computers are pretty simple, they just do things one step at a time, and all the Net is, really, is a whole buncha computers, all doing one thing at a time.  Of course with multiple cores, and threaded processes some are virtually doing hundreds of things at a time, and doing them millions of times a second.

When I think about all the bazillions of wheels within wheels going around, Right Now, so that you can read this page my hair starts to catch fire.

take a look, Under the hood,  at some of the stuff running under the hood on this Kazoo Band

Workshop

Hobbits always have to have workshops, and if anyone doubts this all they have to do is ask my sibs about all of the junk that I used to have as a kid. The purpose of the workshop here is to provide some visibility into what I still need to do to pimp out the Hobbits World, and some things I am thinking about doing in the future. Check it out and if you know of something you want added to the list let me know.
